In Matthew in the 23 verses about the birth of Jesus, four of those verses refer to the prophets that prophesized of Jesus&#8217; birth. Matthew 5:17 Jesus said think not what i came to destroy but to fulfill. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus came to FULFILL the law and the prophets. His circumcision was important. Mary and Joseph fulfilling their appointed calling was important. Jesus being circumcised was more than just &#8220;the law&#8221;. He was the surety that the bond would be paid for those under the law. Galatians 4 tells us Jesus was made under the law to redeem those who are under the law. Not anyone can pay the price of our redemption, only Jesus. Only Jesus can truly cut off the flesh and its influences and live a perfect and sinless life before God and man. As a baby, Jesus suffered and bled being circumcised so that every male Israelite baby may become a son of God and not just a son of Abraham. Circumcision supposed a baby to be a sinner which was condemned. Baby Jesus therefore took the sinner&#8217;s place and the drops of blood Jesus shed on that 8th day (8 being the number of new beginnings) He took upon himself as an heir the condemnation of sin from Adam. When Jesus bowed His head on the cross and said &#8220;it is finished&#8221; it was completely finished. All was fulfilled of the Law and the Prophets. He is surety for the Jew and the Gentile. Col 2 tells of the inner circumcision of our hearts that can only be accomplished through what Jesus did and our faith in what He has done.
