Todays sermon was outside. Let’s not forget about our future! In Micah’s day there were some bad things going on. Christians have endured bad times throughout history. In Micah, were gonna see about their corrupt judicial system. They had a bad government that could be bought. Laws were for the citizens and not the leaders. God IS gracious and merciful. The Bible tells us he is also a JUST God. God loves us (John 3:16) but he is also God. There is only one way that sin will not go unpunished – and that’s through repentance in the blood and faith in the blood of Jesus Christ. The Kingdom of Heaven is at Hand. In Micah’s day things weren’t so different than today.
1- Is it not for you to know judgement. You’ll see that preachers would rather preach what people want to hear. Here, Micah calls them out. There is a chance for people to change. We don’t want to see people go to Hell. 2- Micah accuses them – very graphic verse about how they do evil things. The Word of God was true then and is true now. They should have been protecting the people from injustice but was openly piling more on them. 2-3 shows how the leaders treated the people of Israel. 4- ‘then shall they cry unto the Lord’ – one day they will need God and he will not hear them, because of how ill they acted. It is only the Word of God that can fight against them. What the leaders were doing was wrong. Our God is Sovereign. 5- Micah turns his attention to the prophets. The prophets caused the people to sin is what its saying. (Ch 4 talks of the future church) Micah describes their sin- they made people believe it is ok to sin and not listen to Gods Word. He then tells of their punishment. God will no longer give them a message! These people knew the difference that it made and how big of a deal that was. They will not be able to preach from God like Micah. 8- He tells them they need to turn from sin. 9- He lists more charges. He describes their sinful behavior a little more. The very laws they were sure supposed to uphold, they hate. They twist the law that is straight forward. When God says something, its straight. Satan twists it. There has always been sin, its just more in the light now. Things are messed up, but do not forget there is a future. Things in the present will not stay this way forever. There is a future church- all nations will go to the same church. There’s going to be a day that God will teach us there. We will go hear his Words and do them. 10- They built the city on the backs of the innocent and filled it with sin. 11- Everyone had been bought out by money. Man teaches us to love money. God says love of money is evil. 12- The nation is going to suffer. Its just gonna grow up in brush because its forsaken. Chapter 4 – we wont be divided anymore by nation or denomination. We wont have to worry about anything. We will be one. Chapter 5 – tells us of our future government. Jesus will be our leader. He is going to set up his kingdom here. Never forget your future. If you read Micah, he tells prophecies – you will see this in chapter 5. 2-4 tells us of Jesus ruling as a shepherd over sheep. See shepherds don’t just rule over their sheep, they live with them in order to care for them. Jesus will live among us. (Psalm 23) The Lord is my shepherd and I shall not want for any other but him. I don’t want a different government than him. We don’t judge with mercy and grace like God does. In the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for thou are walking among us for though art with us.
Don’t forget your future child of God, don’t get so focused on the present that you forget your future.
